[ZINE] FEST
WAS A RAVING SUCCESS.
If you did not attend, I feel your woe and wish it could be rectified.
We accumulated a ton of zines/contact info for distros and possible zine-sale opportunities! I will try to scan them and post them here/on the website(?) asap.
By the way, if you don't hear from me, I may have moved to Madison.

John Berryman: Dream Song 1
Huffy Henry hid the day,
unappeasable Henry sulked.
I see his point,—a trying to put things over.
It was the thought that they thought
they could do it made Henry wicked & away.
But he should have come out and talked.
All the world like a woolen lover
once did seem on Henry's side.
Then came a departure.
Thereafter nothing fell out as it might or ought.
I don't see how Henry, pried
open for all the world to see, survived.
What he has now to say is a long
wonder the world can bear & be.
Once in a sycamore I was glad
all at the top, and I sang.
Hard on the land wears the strong sea
and empty grows every bed.

F.Y.I.
I'm trying to figure out how to upload the online zine library from our last website to our new one, but I'm having the hardest time. If anyone wants to take a look and is more knowledgeable about such things, please do and let me know what to do.
Here's the link to the old library: http://galesburgzinelibrary.webs.com/zinecollection.htm
thanks!

Plans for the new year
It's still August, thankfully, which means school is still about a month away, but nonetheless, here are some plans for Zine Club for the coming fall:
- Will be starting the Zine-a-Month initiative to stuff campus boxes once a month with a zine of our choosing.
- Getting some spin racks for the library!
- Carnival of Clubs! Happens on Sept 10th @ 4pm. Great opportunity for us.
- Fundraising for trip to the Madison Zine Fest in Wisconsin.
- The trip itself.
- New storage system for supplies, because let's face it, what we have now is shameful.
- New supplies! Trips to Dick Blick, Joanne Fabrics, Goodwill and even the Antique Mall on Main are in order.
- Workshops, of course.
- End of term party!
We'll see how far our funds will stretch for the term, but there will be more in winter, so we're only just beginning.
Another goal or two for the year at large:
- T-shirts! Go-Van-Gogh's has been found out to be quite overpriced (just ask the Dance Squad), so I was thinking the clothes shop on Main St. The name, of course, escapes me now.
- Working with other clubs on campus--distributing zines for them/about them, doing co-op events and such. I think it'll be great for us to work with the other student clubs on campus--it'll get word out to the rest of the student body that we exist and also promote cohesiveness between student organizations (which I feel is desperately needed). If you have any contacts in any of the clubs, leave a comment here or contact me/devan via email
(kcarsell@knox.edu, debennet@knox.edu) with the information. I know people in Estudiantes Sin Fronteras, Alliance for Peaceful Action and Knox Writers' House to start with. But I'd love to surpass that.
All in all, I think we have a lot of great things we can do by our little renegade club. It'll take a lot of love and support, but we'll get it done.

Zinefest 2010!
Zinefest has been around since 2004. It is an annual gathering in Madison where people who love zines gather to read zines, learn about zines, buy zines, sell zines, and talk about zines. It would be really awsome to go.

Insurrectionary Zines
Tons of radical zines. read the original SCUM manifesto, or Laugh of the Medusa.Read deconstructions of Capitalism or police brutality or Sex, Race, and Class. All of them are very interesting, however, I must warn you that the rhetoric in The Power of Women in the Subversion of the Community is a bit out of date.

Thought I'd post some cool shtuffz
like a poem.
We all should post cool pix or poems or articles or video clips or whatever for possible zine inspiration! HOP TO IT ZINE!STERS
Two girls runaway from the Home. They have a revolver
in their possession. The Sisters Of Our Lady have given up
looking for them, returning in the night with soft candles.
The sleek clouds have thrown their riders, and the bees
are returning to the honey, the clover at the edge of the
cliff black as eyelids, damp as blue mussels flexing at the moon.
The girls look in the stolen mirror, then throw their shoes
in the sea. They take off one another’s dress, posing
on the rocks that jut out over the faded water of the last days.
The clover beat down from their splendid feet, the clover
quiet like a vault. Nearby in a ship named for early death,
I drink wine like a city. Anchored far off the continent of love.
Strange, but bees do not die in their own honey, and how the dead
are toted off, how the sweet moons are deposited in the catacombs.
The clover at the edge of the sea like a chemise, place
where animals have lain. They help one another with their hair,
their dresses blowing back to land. They look over the
cliff, spit on the beach. Birds I have never seen going by.
- Frank Stanford
